Job Description
Research assistants will support faculty member's research projects investigating related topics. Projects will include collecting data, complaining key information, and identifying scholarly literature on specific topics. Research Assistant responsibilities are typically based on their experience and interests and existing departmental needs. Assignments can include demonstration and laboratory prep, testing new experiments and simulations, and research with faculty.
Time Commitment: The time commitment depends on individual assignments and may require weekend and evening availability, but generally ranges from 5 - 10 hours per week during the academic year and 35-40 hours per week during the summer.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Setting up and taking down experiments.
  • Completing any required training.
  • Working with faculty on research projects.
  • Creating, organizing, and testing demonstration and laboratory equipment
  • Testing curricular materials developed by Davidson faculty
  • Assist with data collection.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Basic computer skills.
  • General laboratory skills are preferred.
  • Be thoroughly trustworthy and dependable.
  • Show initiative to help others.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Possess and use strong problem solving skills and/or strong laboratory skills.
  • Be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Be punctual and make work deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to learn from mistakes.
