At Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services, we are helping to create brighter, healthier futures for our patients and their families. We are the Piedmont Triad's only private psychiatric hospital meeting the chemical dependency illnesses and behavioral healthcare needs of those in our community.

Our 164-bed inpatient services for adolescents through senior adulthood offers comprehensive and individual assessments, psychiatric evaluation and medication stabilization, daily group therapy and personalized aftercare planning. We also offer a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program to ensure the continuum of care for our patients. Old Vineyard is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Patient Activity Coordinator

Part-Time: Evenings and Weekends

We are currently seeking an Patient Activity Coordinator to join our talented and caring team. This position must have availability to work weekday evenings and weekend days. Our ideal candidate will possess strong multitasking skills, the ability to provide compassionate and competent care to a diverse patient population, must be able to build and maintain positive professional relationships with all hospital staff and patients, as well as demonstrate professional, effective communication skills.

Position Summary:

The Activity Coordinator plans, organizes, and facilitates activities and events which enrich the hospital stay for our patient population. Specific tasks include:

  • Planning, organizing, and facilitating approved activities and events for patients. Activities and events may include art, music, exercise, or other appropriate activities and events for the population served.
  • Oversees activities ensuring patients are safe and following rules and instructions.
  • Ensures a welcoming and encouraging attitude with all patients to foster activity participation.
  • Communicates positively and professionally at all times.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in following with federal law and hospital policy.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female adolescents and adults, as well as dually diagnosed adults. In absence of these qualifications upon hire, must demonstrate ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within reasonable time frame via the organization's orientation and training program.


Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field OR bachelor's degree in unrelated field with two years' experience in similar role preferred.

Experience:

Activity planning for adolescents required. Previous experience in behavioral health field preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

None required.

Physical Requirements:

Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform CPI physical, verbal and non-verbal techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending physicians, and other department representatives.
