POSITION SUMMARY

  • A Maintenance Technician Training is a job classification for a future Maintenance position. The Maintenance Tech in training should have mechanical and electrical background, trade school or mechatronics classes as indicated in the educational requirements to prepare them for the on the job training they will receive by a qualified maintenance technician. The Technician in Training will receive instruction in basic troubleshooting techniques, trouble analysis and prevention, and machine maintenance and repair principles and techniques. They will receive assessments and reviews, and once training is completed and the member is deemed qualified, the member should be promoted to a maintenance technician position on the 12 hour night shift most likely.
  • Upon Promotion to Maintenance Tech, the member will be presented with the appropriate job description and responsibilities for that position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other appropriate duties as assigned):

  • Uses basic hand tools to disassemble and repair machinery under instruction by a Maintenance Technician; a Maintenance Technician will instruct the Trainee in restoring equipment to operation in accordance with the design specifications and industry standards.
  • Performs routine maintenance items such as cleaning, inspection and lubrication of mechanical and hydraulic systems and components; a Maintenance Technician will instruct the Trainee in identifying worn or faulty components and/or unsuitable conditions and correcting as required.
  • Receive instruction on installation and/or replacement of mechanical drive system and hydraulic motion control system components including preforming necessary adjustments and alignments on components, such as: motors, couplings, sheaves, sprockets, cylinders and linear slides.
  • Receive instruction on performing routine repairs using concrete instructions; participates in troubleshooting activities and involved repairs under the instruction of qualified technicians; uses basic electrical testing devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, or mega-ohmmeters in order to assist Maintenance Technicians in measurement and testing of electrical circuits and components.
  • Provides input for performing in-depth root cause analysis and makes recommendations for countermeasures.
  • Utilizes plant CMMS to look up, print and enter data into Work Orders; Utilizes plant CMMS to identify and locate spare parts required for PM / MMOL activities. Organizes and stages spare parts to facilitate use by Maintenance Technicians during these activities.
  • Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), and Kaizen activities, as needed
  • Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials This job has no supervisory responsibilities and no direct reports.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A trade school certification involving electrical / mechanical principles or equivalent experience.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Must be able to successfully complete all required job training, including: understanding the types and storage location of all types of lubricants utilized at the NGK ACU facility, including hydraulic fluids and related materials; utilizing information on a PM task sheet to select, transport and apply the appropriate lubricant to the device(s) specified; and handling used lubricants in a manner consistent with the NGK EMS policy and associated requirements.

Required Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Japanese language a Plus!

Required Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Required Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to understand and apply basic maintenance and mechanical principles to problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fork Lift License and/or Boom Lift License.
  • Extensive background check may be required.
  • Knowledge of database software like CMMS, Solar Soft, Maximo; inventory software; manufacturing software; spreadsheet software liked Excel; and word processing software

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat; extreme cold; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; and occasionally loud.
