School/Department Information | The High School Academic program provides approximately 275 young artists in grades 9-12 with rigorous instruction within the core disciplines of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, and Health and Physical Education, leading to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school diploma. The program also provides other academic support for students including PSAT, SAT, and AP testing and college and career counseling. |
Primary Description of Work | The Guidance Counselor, under the supervision of the Associate Dean and Dean of the High School Academic Program, provides guidance services in the areas of academics, personal and social adjustment, and college and career planning for students in the High School of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). The Guidance Counselor is responsible for working with students, parents, and other UNCSA professional staff to plan an appropriate academic program for each high school student. Work also includes providing assistance with academic components of new student orientation, administering College Board tests and exams, and assisting students with developing appropriate time management skills. |
